We are grateful to our friends at the Luce-Fahey Family Foundation for their generous support for a pilot program to distribute Mathical Books to unhoused women and children in California and the Pacific northwest.
During Spring 2024 and Spring 2025, we distributed more than 1,400 new, math-inspiring children’s books to young people and their families in shelters and transitional environments.
Organizations receiving books in Spring 2024 included Mary’s Place in Seattle, Ronald McDonald House Charities (Bay Area) – Stanford House, and A Sense of Home, Alexandria House, and Los Angeles House of Ruth, all in Los Angeles. Organizations receiving books in Spring 2025 included the same group, with the addition of Sugiyama High School in Seattle.
Altogether 627 books were distributed in spring 2024, reaching upwards of 900 children, and 785 books in Spring 2025, reaching around 1,350 children.
We appreciate the publishers who provided bulk purchase discounts to magnify the reach of the program. Particular gratitude in this regard goes to Charlesbridge Publishing.
